engine problems

ive got a 2001 xterra. i went off roading with it, after off roading i washed the car along with the engine... after washing the engine the check engine light came on, i drove it to where i live on the way about 50 miles into the trip the engine died, while at 60 MPH. it started back up and drove fine.. i had the codes read at autozone. they said all of my o2 sensors where bad, and my knock sensor... i couldnt understand how all that could have gone bad so they erased the codes... the check engine light has not come back on, but the car still dies occasionaly. last time it died was when i was slowing down using the engine. Once again it started right back up and ran fine.. my car only has 60,000 miles. I think it could be bad gas. any help would be appriciated

Re: engine problems

Ignore the knock sensor, it's never a problem and won't even trip the light if it's the only code in the system.
The 02 sensors may well be screwed. Some have codes from them after a good dunking, sometimes they're happy after a good cleaning. Others have no codes until they wash the underside and get them wet...

thanks for the input...
i was told by nissan to let the car sit for a couple of days...to insure everything has completly dried out. then drive it and see if it has the same problems

they did say that the codes that it pulled out, would not kill the engine while driving, just make it run rough. so they thought i might have some water in the ignition. thanks again

well the verdict was the fuel pump...so i paid a rediculous amount to fix that... then they found out the oxygen sensors are bad... and now they want 700 dollars to fix it.
i dont know... i thought the xterra was supposed to handle off roading...apparently not.

question... has anyone ever used an after market universal o2 sensor, they are half the price and the guy at the part store says the only difference is that you have to splice the wires together instead of having the harness?
