I have an 04 LS ext cab and there is no blue tint at the top of the windshield....I notice the 03's have it ......was this a change to no tint for 04?

Just curious....

Do not know... Maybe your window was replaced?

Did you get it used?

I think it cost about $100.00 more for the blue poop.

Just get it tinted with some really dark tint.

Nope, bought it new....factory ordered actually. Did not realize that was an option...

I am surprised that there is not more mention of this issue.

I paid for the tinted glass options when I ordered my truck, but the "blue tint" at the top of the windshield is no longer available.

I never thought to look at the '04 models on the lot to check for the blue tint. Nearly all better vehicle models have had this tint for as long as I can remember.

It was a stupid decision to eliminate this feature.

I will have to go to a windshield shop and get a 2003 windshield installed to get it.

Shade Band at Top of Windshield

Correct. 2004 models come original equipment with just the straight tint, and no blue shade band at the top of the windshield. As a matter of fact, this vehicle and manufacturer is not the only one affected. These windshields now come with what is called a "third visor frit", where the black band, or dot matrix dips down at the center of the shield. If you go to a glass shop and request a shaded windshield, you will not be replacing with original equipment.

The 2003 Silverado has the blue tint. Can't I just ask the glass shop to install a 2003 windshield?

I wonder what the thinking was to eliminate this feature after providing it all of these years?

Do Ford and Chrysler still provide it? It is enough of an issue to me that had I known, I would have considered something other than the Chevy.

Yes, you can have the glass shop put in a 2003 windshield with the shade band. It really has no significant feature, it's more aesthetics than anything else (especially in a truck, where you're sitting higher). Ford and Chrysler has done the same thing for many of their vehicles. It should not be an issue as it doesn't affect visibility or likewise.

You would seriousley consider buying a different truck just because it dident come with the blue tint on the windshield? I think their are more inportant things to look at than the little 5" blue line at the top of the windshield. But thats just my oppinion.

Nigel215:

If all other things were equal, yes I think I would. Look how good your truck looks in your pictures! Part of the 'high end" look is that tint.

It isn't just a blue line. When you are driving, most of your visual information comes basically from the horizon. When you drive without the blue tint, the bright sky is always in your field of vision even if you are not looking directly at it.

This seems to produce eye fatigue when driving extended distances (which I do) especially if the sky is hazy ( smoggy summer afternoon).

I first noticed this after buying my second car. My first car was a 1963 Chevy Bel-air. It was not tinted. My second car was a 1964 Impala and had the tint. It was quite a noticable difference even to my much younger eyes.

The tint established sort of standard. Cheap model = no tint , Better model = Tint.

Of course, this is just my opinion, but I think you may be taking that little blue strip for granted. When you move onto your next model and the tint is not available, I wonder if you will feel the same.

The issue is not whether I think the little blue strip makes a difference but rather that GM decided to eliminate it and not offer it as an option after nearly 40 years of making it available.

P.S. I wish my truck looked as good as your truck.

Bill

Re: Blue windshield tint

Yea, maybe i dident notice if I had the line in my old car. I dident realize it made that much of a difference. But like Busta said, you can just go get one put in instead of buying a whole new windshield.

p.s. thanks for the compliment...Ill have some updated pics in the next few weeks.

Greetings Rfgaile and others,

I've got a 2004 Chevy 1500 ext. cab LS. What is the black dotted matrix on the windshield in front of the rear view mirror for? Is it a sensor or what?

Not a sensor. It's known as a "Third Visor", to help aid with the Sun shining in between the two sun visors. A lot of the new vehicles have this feature.
