Oil Filter BLOWN OFF CAR! Stuck check valve?
GP'rs:
I'm an insurance agent by trade. One of my clients, an OIL CHANGE & CAR WASH, is being sued by a customer claiming they didn't perform proper oil change causing car to sieze up. Suing for $6000 total damage to car. My client checks and double checks all veh's before drive off. There were no signs of oil leak or oil trail from shop. 12 miles later, the car siezed up. THE OIL FILTER WAS COMPLETELY BLOWN OFF CAR. Does anyone know if PRE W BODY GP's had a problem with some type of CHECK VALVE sticking, causing increase oil pressure to BLOW OFF OIL FILTER. The GP in question was 1994. Really appreciate any info. My client thinks he is being taken advantage of. GPme |

Re: Oil Filter BLOWN OFF CAR! Stuck check valve?
I had a friend who took his car to an oil shop in Michigan. They drained oil, changed filter, and lubed. This is not your everyday car. It's a 1966 442. He made it 5 miles down road, motot went. NO OIL. They drained and didn't fill. That cost them a lot more then $6,000.00
I never heard of a oil filter blown off a car. Have seen them come off because they were not installed right. I think you are going to pay on this one. But with the age of the car, it's not worth $6,000.00. You can buy a 1998 for that. Get a hold of GTP DAD, he has worked for GM a long while. He would know about past problems. Good luck
