E320 Sedan '98 Replace Rear Window Regulator

Does anyone have any experience removing the inside trim door panel, how it is done, any special tools needed, is it easy and is there anything to look out for? After this part is taken off how is the replacement of the regulator done and any related tips would be greatly appreciated.

Well, for starters, the regulator itself is held in my rivets. So if you don't know how to drill out rivets or you dont have a rivet gun I wouldn't try to replace it yourself.

If you still want to know I'll do my best to explain how to do it.

Dear Blindside,

As I slowly came to the same conclusion, trying to do it myself without tools would be more likely more costly in the end, I went around for quotations. Three were estimates for $700, $240, to $200. This is for a $90 part. Unbelieveable spread on the labor rates.

Thanks for getting back on this though.

$700? That's outrageous! The most they should quote you is 2-3 hours labor. So of course the 240 & 200 are the closest to that price range. Definetly go to one of those shops.

Just out of curiosity, who quoted you 700?
