'97 JGC dies, lights out, at highway speed...
Son's '97 JGC Ltd. has died at highway speed three times. Each time, car goes dead immediately, no chugging. Happens during acceleration. Since last time was at night, he also noticed lights, instrument panel, radio, also dies. Upon pulling to side of the road, turning off switch, sitting for several minutes, car can be restarted. Then, car typically runs fine.
All suggestions appreciated! |

well it sounds like the Vehicle is losing battery power, I would check all ground wires.

Have the alternator check out too while you're at it.

Re: '97 JGC dies, lights out, at highway speed...
while the jeep is running take the negative battery terminal off, if the just shutoff then the Alternator needs replaced. if it does not shut off leave it disconnected for a coupl eminutes if it ever shuts off while the negative battery terminal is disconnected then te Alternator is bad, a totally shot alt. will shut the jeep off as soon as you d/c the cable, but a alternater that has a bad connection or is weak may keep the system going for a few.
