Body water leak - drivers floor fills up

I have a 1996 Metro 2 dr and when it rains the drivers floor starts to fill up with water. Does anyone have any ideas as to where to look for the cause of the leak? Maybe a body seam, etc.

look 2 places. first, make sure you don't have any rust holes in the floorpan. 2nd, look at where the wiring harnesses come through under the dash. one of the rubber boots may be ripped, or perhaps just came out. Your wheel will kick all kinds of water in the car if those rubber boots aren't in place. One will be right by the fusebox under the dash, other is in the same place, on the other side.

Thank you, I will check as soon as I get my car back from having the automatic transmission rebuilt. I will let you know what I find.

My '96 2-dr has a windshield leak that causes water to drip down accross the driver-side A-pillar and straight down into the driver's door storage bin. From there it leaks onto the carpet. I removed the rubber plug in the floor-pan to let it drain.

Re: Body water leak - drivers floor fills up

Thanks Mike,
I have a crack in my windshield and will be having it replaced shortly. I'll check and see if that is where it is coming in from and let you know what I find. At least now I know there is a plug to drain the water out.

I have the same kind of trouble but it seems to be like this all the time (even if it's not raining), it will clear out when I stop the car, but every time I drive the same kind of thing happens to it... any idea? I'll check for those things you said and come back about it later.

Re: Body water leak - drivers floor fills up

What I mean is, my floor fills up with water (or something) on the driver side every time I drive, even if it's not raining. When I stop the car the water will sloly go away but will come back everytime I drive....

Re: Body water leak - drivers floor fills up

It sounds like your water leak is not related to only when it rains but at any time. Do you have to keep adding coolant to the radiator? My leak only happens when it is or has been raining and you can see the water standing on the floor and how deep depends on the the amount of rain. Will only dry out if I soat it up with a towel and then leave the windows open in the summer. I have not had the car in the winter yet. But from the way the carpet looks the leak has been there some time even before I bought the car.

Re: Body water leak - drivers floor fills up

if your floor fills up whenever you drive it sounds like a heater core, or heater hose problem. On the other one that is only when it rains , I dont know if the door are the same but my 94 will hold water on the seal at the front by the hinge in a bad rain ,you might check your weather seal on the door

Re: Body water leak - drivers floor fills up

Thanks for the input. I have already checked the heater core and it is ok. Never lose any coolant and water on floor is only water. I will check out the door seals. Ron
