wheels sticking in cold weather

I have a 98 Windstar....Last year in the cold weather the right front wheel seemed to stick when first starting to drive...It would seem to loosen up after a few minutes....The colder it was the worse it was...I had new tie rods put on (there was probably a more pressing problem at that moment) When I mentioned this to the mechanic he seemed to think I was crazy....Anyway winter came to an end and so did the sticking problem....Well now winter is back and so is the sticking wheel...I feels like the steering is going to fall out of the car....There is a klunking noise with the sticking....I know I need a mechanic to fix it but I would love to point him in a direction...Does anyone have any idea as to why this would happen only when it is cold...Am I endangering lives by driving this car....As I mentioned earlier it seems to go away after a few minutes...It does not have to be below freezing outside either....Please help me........Sherri

Re: wheels sticking in cold weather

What may actually be happening is the brake caliper assembly is not releasing the brake rotor. This will be especially evident after an overnight sitting.
Different model years have different caliper support designs ... but they all require lubrication for the caliper to slide in/out. Do not confuse the caliper slides with the pad retention pins.... but both need some grease.
