fuel gauge after fuel pump replacement

I just replaced my fuel pump on my 97 Aurora Saturday. The tank was close to orange lines so I put about two gallons in the tank to make sure it had gas to pump.My gauge read almost 1/2 tank.I put off filling it up till today when it quit on my wife.Fuel gauge was still reading a little less than 1/2 tank. After some hair pulling, I figured I would put more gas in and it fired right up.Went to fill it all the way up this time.My question is will my fuel gauge reset itself so that I won't run out of gas at 1/2 tank?

Are you sure you run out of gas. Could there be a problem with the new Fuel Pump, maybe the electrical connection is loose.

Not for sure but I didn't really do anything.I took the fuel filter loose on the engine side and gas started spraying everywhere.Hooked it back up but wasn't getting any gas at the fuel rail line.Fuel pump was running so I figured it didn't have enough gas to pump.
