Problem with '90 Trofeo

I have a 1990 Trofeo with the visual information center. Every couple minutes a message pops up on the VIC that says: "Gear select problem - check gear shift position." That may or may not be exactly what it says, but its basically saying that it doesn't know what gear I've selected. It says this in all positions, 1,2,D, OD, N, and Park. What should I look for? This is driving me nuts.

It's possible that your neutral safety switch is out of adjustment, but it is most likely failing. It is also possible that there is a bad connection from the switch to the BCM.

I checked the VIC for error codes today. Here's what it gave me:

E022
E041
B127 - Gear selector circuit

Does anyone know what the two E codes mean? I can't find any information on them. Thanks.

E022 = TPS voltage
E041 = Cam sensor signal

You can watch the selector circuits on the BCM data list.

Thanks but please elaborate! What do these codes mean ? Whats broken and what should I be looking for? And what should I look for while watching the selector circuits on the BCM data list?

this happened to me on my 90 toro, it was also the neutral safety switch. It mounts on the top back side of the tranny under your brake master cylinder, it has a cluster of wires leadding out of it. Un plug the two plugin's and a vaccuum line. Theres 2 bolts that secures it to the tranny and 1 nut that holds the shifter extension. To make things easier get a couple of 6 inch socket extensions so you can reach the bolts without having to remove the master cylinder. Also note be sure the car is on level ground and chalk the rear tires because when you go to remove the shifter cable extension you may take it out of park and into another gear causing it to roll. Good Luck, you can pick up a safety switch from a junkyard for 10 bucks.
