wheels and tires on 94 metro
i saw somewhere on this site that some one knew what wheels will swap straight to a metro from other manufacturers. i would like to get some 13 or 14 inch rims to go on my 94 metro because the only place i can find 12's is wal mart and those tires will slide everywhere on wet roads, i have had my car in the ditch 3 times this year from sliding in rain on easy curves, i dont want fancy wheels -steel would be fine just a little bigger and wider ,and higher quality. thanks for any help!

Sounds like you just have some crappy tires. My old beater metro had 12's on it too, and it handled foul weather like a champ.. You could also have some deeper issues such as steering alignment, bad ball joint, rusted frame, bad wheel bearings, and so on. You can use steel rims from a Metro Convertible. They're 13", and will allow more meat on the tread. But your acceleration and steering ease will suffer very noticably. I would stick with the 12's, and get some nice tires put on it from a professional tire shop. And have your whole suspension looked at. 90% of handling problems start before the tires..

Re: wheels and tires on 94 metro
thanks geozuki,i did have some alignment probs at first -my kid backed over a culvert and bent the rear stabilizer? and the rear dr side whell was pointing at the left front wheel but replaced that and did a 4 wheel align and all was good .
it might be the asphalt they use here in nw arkansas because i have problems on the same areas and the curves arent that bad maybe they use some repaving compound my cheapie wal-mart tires dont like. i went back home to colorado last thanksgiving and had no problem in the snow,so i think i will try to find some tire shop here with some 12's and try that first thanks again |

From what I understand the vert has 12mm lugs and our 2drs have 10mm. 1995 and later all have 12mm.
There are lug nuts available for mags to adapt the 10mm to the larger stud size, but I'm not sure you can find them for steel wheels. The secret is to get a combination of wheel and tire that is as close to the same diameter as stock. That way you don't sacrifice any power. I'm on the brink of going 14 inch wheels and low profile tires. I can get within an inch of the target diameter. |
