Need Advice on possible purchase of a 1990 ZR-1
Hello All.
For some reason I have developed this incredible thirst for a ZR-1.I have about $30,000 to play with and not sure if i should or should not. I either want a low miles(15,000 or less) Green or Black ,stock ,numbers matching ,well documented ,authenticated and inspected vehicle. My goal is to have this as the initial entry into what will one day be a nice collection of 4 or 5 cars.It will see minimal use,if any. I'm buying to savor..and yea, maybe even collect. 1.)Is a ZR-1 a good value?Which model(s) are more desirable?(I mean fastest out of the box).Am i better off trying to pick up a grand sport or a Collector's with the LT4? 2)Maintenance on these older vettes difficult?Could a large local GM dealer service this vehicle? 3.)Is it true that a vin# presented to a GM dealer will allow potential buyers to peer into a sellers car history at any GM certified service stations across the country? 4.)Am i better off socking that money away to buy a newer badder vette in a few years? Thanks, M.B. Last edited by CigarCity; 11-27-2004 at 12:34 AM. |

a Z06 is a newer badder vette and can be found in your price range.
It is hard to find anyone that wants to touch the engine in the zr1 |

Re: Need Advice on possible purchase of a 1990 ZR-1
The thing about the ZR1 is that pesky little LT5 engine. If you are collecting, and can find a clean example, id say get it. If you are looking at driving it and are worried about the upkeep, its probly not the best choice. Most shops have experienced techs, if not a corvette speciallist that can very well work on the car, but because of the rarity of it, and the complexity, the parts are very expencive. If you are looking to just get a fast vette to play with i would go with the LT4 vettes or newer ZO6, but if you want something that will still be rare and awesome in the future, and worthy of its own spot in a climate controlled warehouse, id get the ZR1.
