Rear air fan speeds.....
I have the rear air and found out that some speeds do not work. There are 3 levels of fan speed. Not sure if 1 and 2 are out or just level 2 is out. level 3 works fine. How do i check and where do i check this. IS it in the switch? thanks

Blower motor resistor!! It is usually mounted near the blower motor and it controls all speeds but high speed!!

I agree with flatrater -- blower motor resistor. Easy to replace the ceramic card containing resistor and relay. Take off passenger side panel under dashboard. Stand on your head and disconnect wires to blower motor and wires to left of blower (which connect to resistor board). On the resistor board (which has the wires to the blower now dangling), just loosen the two screws closest to the firewall (don't remove them because they're hard to get back into place -- take my word for it). Then remove the center screw that's easy to get to. The resistor card can be removed by sliding back (it fits in a slot like a drawer). Reverse this procedure to put it back after you've purchased the replacement card from your dealer. Don't force anything or you'll break the new card -- it'll slide into the slot fairly easily when it's properly aligned. |

Re: Rear air fan speeds.....
I had the same problem just this week. I removed the resister block and repaired it myself. Apparently moisture had gotten under the protective seal and corroded a few trracks in the circuit board. I added a few jumpers and problem solved. Thanks for the tip on the removal without removing all the screws....

Re: Rear air fan speeds.....
I read you post yesterday after my friend said the 1 and 2 fan speeds on his 1998 Transport Montana did not work. He told me AFTER he replaced the blower, and console switch. I suggested the fan speed resistor block. He called the Pont dealer and the parts person said, "Oh yeah, that is probably it", after he sold him the other parts. Why is there no mention of this particular fix in the Chilton manual? Anyway, his fan is fine and we both are happy.
