Transmission issues with Tahoes & Suburbans?

I have been SUV shopping the last few days and drove a 93 Suburban with 130K miles, a 92 Suburban with 179K miles, and a 97 Tahoe with 211K miles and a rebuilt trans, and all three cars had a very noticable bang shifting into second, you could feel it and hear it. These are all Automatics BTW. Is this a common problem? Is this an easy fix? Is it Costly? 3 out of the 5 I have driven have done this.

Please advise.

Bang or clunk? It could be the slip yoke. Try searching the C/K forum, because all the old forums for Suburban/Tahoe/Yukon is there. 4x4 or 2x4? Dave

I guess it could be a clunk. Not shifting smoothly that is for sure, but not so bad it feels like the trans is about to drop out either. The Suburbans were 2X4 the Tahoe was a 4X4.

Well I did, I bought a Fully loaded 93 Suburban with only 120K miles in very clean condition for $3000. I guess that is a pretty good price. What about the shifting though? Can this be fixed cheap? Will it tear something up if I keep driving it like this? Is this a common problem? If so what is it, an electronic issue or valve body? Please advise.

HMMMM,,,,, guessing it's a 4L60-E trans,,,,,The problem can be several
things ,,,ranging from re-placing valves that are worn from side-loading
because they weren't hardened,,,,,,wrong springs {too heavy}installed
in vb,,,,,,PWM going to hell or needs adj,,,,,first things first,,,,may want to change the way the 1/2 accumulator is assembled.....May cure the problem!!!!! [email protected]
