just updating on 94 vortech

I am just updating my 1994 jimmy 4.3 experience.I have so far replaced the cpi,nut kit, fuel pump and filter, plugs, wires, cap and rotor, and just replaced the catalytic converter. When I first started it after the cpi it ran great cold.I thought I fixed the problem.Afer it warmed up it started running really bad again so I replaced the cat. This part did nothing so now im back to square one..Im going to try and drive this piece of junk to the autozone and see if they can get any codes.I live about 30 miles from there so I hope it will make it.I see this board and all the trouble people are having with this style of truck and I can help but wonder if gm doesnt design failure into their vehicles.Im just real frustrtated with this thing right now....thanks for all the info..If I find the problem I will post the results thanks

Any auto zone I know only have poor parts people and no mechanics. Code scanners dont fix cars. Sometimes even good mechanics cant fix them. I have a s10 doing same thing.

When you replaced the filter, did you replace the one on the pickup or the fuel line? I work with a guy who spent $700 with a mechanic for a faulty $6.99 fuel line filter?

Just a thought...

I replaced the one on the bottom of the pump when I replaced the fuel filter and I also replaced the in line filter..Basically the one under the driver side..

I took this to a mechanic when it first started running bad. This was my wifes truck and she was having problems so she took it in.The shop which is called firestone in lafayette,In.Checked it and told us it was the fuel pump and it would be 340.00 to fix it.I told my wife that I could change it myself for a whole lot less. The shop charged us $80.00 to basically diagnos this..Now I know that all they did was put a pressure guage on the shrader port and saw that it had a pressure loss some where so they said it was the pump.this is the shop for you.I changed the pump and no difference.I heard that the nut kit on these leak so I took off the plenum and there was a leak.I changed these.Truck still running crappy. And the list of changes goes on..The mechanic would be doing the same thing only charging me 60.00 per hour to do it.Gm basically designs this stuff to fail so you just have to go down the list until you get to what part it is.

How is the timing?

Checked it lately with the timing wire removed from the PCM while using a timing gun?
