85 bronco fuel tanks question.

i built a 1948 Ford pick up on a 1985 ford bronco frame. im going to buy a fuel gauge from jc whitney. it said it requires gas tank float with
240-33 ohms resistance. what my question is, is will it work with the gas tank float in the bronco tank or will i need to buy the kit that comes with the complete sending unit.
thanks for any info. Tim

Re: 85 bronco fuel tanks question.

Check your sender with a multimeter. You will probably need to pull it out of the tank to check it. It needs to read about 240 ohms with the float all the way up (full tank) and about 33 ohms with the float down (empty). If the resistance range is lower than specified, the gauge will indicate less than actual, higher and the gauge will indicate more than actual. Low resistance can be adjusted by adding a resistor between the gauge and the sender. High resistance will require a different sender.
