Angry gas pedal flopped on floor

Hi. I stepped on the gas and the pedal is lying on the floor. There is a 2-3 inch wire with a barrel type of thing that is hanging off the end of it. What does this connect to? I can't see anything up there. I don't even know where to look. Is there any kind of diagram I can look at? Help! Thanks.

What year is the car?

I know older golfs/jettas 93-98 had problems with the throttle cable coming apart and then the gas pedal just floppin all the way down. You can also check to see if it is connected at the throttle body. at the end of the intake manifold you should see a metal wire with a ball on it attached to the throttle body. If it isnt-re-attach it. if it is- looks like its not attached to the gas pedal!
