Brake Question

I just took my car to the local chevy dealer. I have some noise coming from my front brakes. They said the front drivers side caliper was broke and needed replaced. He quoted me a price of around 250. Does this sound reasonable? Havent had a chance to call other brake stores in town. Any help is appreciated.

Re: Brake Question

it doesn't sound TOO bad, but if you are at all mechanically inclined, do it yourself for the price of a caliper. They're really easy to replace. Just make sure you replace the pads in the other side as well.

That seems a bit high, but you did say it was the dealer.

Two years ago I had both calipers and the brake lines replaced on my 1992 Chevy Cavilier for a total of $192.00. This was done by a local brake shop, and included rebuilt calipers.

I also had to have that done and Les Schwab was about the same price. I agree with dwalmop if you can replace the caliper yourself it will save you some money.
