So I have a new 2005 Corolla. Wifes car actually. Side impact air bags. Great car. But what's up with the damn headlights? If i wanted always on headlights I would have bought a Chevy. I thought import owners were smart enough to turn the lights on when they wanted them on and not otherwise. How can I flash my lights to warn of cops? Etc. Call me a control freak ( it's true) but I'd like to turn this feature off. Any ideas?

Corollas are built in Fremont, CA, at the NUMMI plant - a joint venture between GM and Toyota. Unfortunately GM no longer markets a Corolla (they used to, as the Prizm).

Re: 2005 Corrola did I buy a Chevy?
pretty much any car now comes with running lights. if you want to warn somebody of cops, just flash your brights.

Your car was made here.
http://www.nummi.com/corolla.html
http://www.toyota.ca/cgi-bin/WebObje...131000e%2ehtml Your car was made either here in Cambridge ,Ontario.Canada. Or Freemont, Cali. As the two links previous will prove. I may be able to find a workaround for the DRL, I'll get back to you. Outthere too.. |

Hey, thanks for the links!! I didn't realize that the Pontiac Vibe was built by/at NUMMI!! Makes me consider buying it; if it weren't so ugly and if it can achieve the same reputation as the Prizm did. (My father threatens to disown any family member that buys a Japanese branded vehicle. Never mind that most of his non-automotive products are made in Asia!)

Re: 2005 Corrola did I buy a Chevy?
you could take the drl relay out or better yet find the wires that lead up to the light sensor for the lights and cut them lol

Re: 2005 Corrola did I buy a Chevy?
I have 98 Corolla, daytime running lights. Since the VE is so basic, it is not possible to turn them off while driving. Some cars have a switch for day time running lights that you can just leave on all the time and they work the way the corolla does (I believe all Camry models come with this feature)
But, like I said, since the Corollas are so basic, they dont have that feature. However, if you are parked and you dont want the lights on, you can put your e-brake on BEFORE you start the car and the drls won't come on until you release the brake. |
