Question Shuts off Once in a Blue Moon

Hey there, I was wondering why my Montana shuts off from time to time. Usually at a stop light. When I Accelerate it dies. I have to start it up again, then it shakes. This happened about 6 Months ago I changed the fuel filter it was ok. What else could it be? Maybe it needs a Tune-up Battery replacement? The battery light did come on when I had to re-start it. Can anyone share a solution for this problem?

Thanks in Advance. (2000 Montana 140,000Km)

if the battery light of volt light came on, you have a problem with your charging system. Either battery or alternator may be bad. You could have a dead cell in the battery or worn brushes in alternator. The transmission is electronically controlled, and with DTR on and weak battery/alternator, the vehicle will shudder and/or not shift correctly/at all. I had this happen to my 97 Lumina when the alternator died. alternators are expensive commodities on these vans though. I found them on Ebay for $50 though, but its a pain in the butt to replace them. Take the van to autozone or similiar place and they will test your battery and alternator for FREE. That should get you started looking in the right direction.
