Hi all,
I went and had a diagnostic check done, and the mechanic said the green colored sensor located on the intake 'may' need to be replaced. It's located under the air intake housing and next to the idle speed control valve. My car has that infamous idle-surging problemo. Any responses appreciated. Have a good one! |

Re: green sensor on intake?
its the temp sensor that measures the temp of the water flowing through throttle body. if it doesn't get right reading it can cycle the idle up and down

Re: green sensor on intake?
If it's the sensor on the back right (if facing the car) of were the air filter goes, its your intake air temp sensor. If this sensor is broken it will make your computer think that the air temp is always -44`C, making it run rich all the time. I had a problem where the wire broke off the connector on mine, causing the ecu to throw a code on my 98 metro. I soldered the wires back together and put some epoxy on it to stiffen up the connector and it's worked fine ever since.
Now if I could just get my timing problem sorted, we'd be all systems go.

Re: green sensor on intake?
Thanks for the help, guys. I don't see any broken wires nor interchangeable parts. If it had to be changed, that looks like a beast of a job. The Hayes manual doesn't cover this
![]() Ah well, if I can't fix this surging problem, I'll just put a piece of electrical tape on the hole in the air filter housing that leads to the EGR valve - no more surging...ever
