Carb Problem??

75% of the times starting the car and running it, the idle is very rough and ou can ehar it hesiating alot. It does this when you ty driving and just revingit too. very ehsistant and kinda sounds like a puslating nosie almost. Whe it does this. it pours smoke out the muffler really badly.. whe it s running fine, it is MINT. after letting it idle for a while today it jsut eventualyl stalls out and smoeks alot.. My friend said something could be wrong with the floats or somethnig and it is jsut flooding it with fuel? I could see that making sense.. any ideas?

carb problem

hello,

i was reading about your problem... it could be a carbeurator problem, but ... it could be a burnt valve as well. i have a 1990 tercel with the 3E engine and a 5 speed... car had the EXACT same symptoms... and had a totally burnt off melted valve and got rotten gas mileage... ya might want to look into a compression check. if that's not the culprit, it could be a bad vaccuum line, as i experienced this problem as well... go over all your vaccuum lines and make sure they're all where they're suppose to be, and in good shape, if that doesn't help ... check your plugs and wires... they could be nasty as hell ... ya never know. if nothing, then its prolby the carb, which i regret to inform you, is basically non-serviceable. ABOUT the only thing you can do is adjust the idle... lol. you can get to a mixture screw, but you have to drill out a plug to get to it, which requires pulling the carb/intake off of the engine to do so... hope this helps... jake
