Re: Coilovers

Coil overs can be a nice addition pending you do it right and DO NOT BUY E-BAY COILOVERS!!... while they say they are for your car, they are not!.. When doing anykind of suspension mod, you need to buy new struts that can take being lowered... If you choose to buy coilovers, a good brand are ground control and the setup RKsport has put together... For struts KONI warrenty for below the 1.5" drop threshold... meaning.... majority of strut manufactuers will void their warrenty for car below 1.5" from normal Stock position... While KONI will start at arounf 550 bucks for a set of 4.... they are the BEST for j-bodys!... while personally i chose to go lowering springs... I have Eibach Pro kit (1.4"drop) with KYB GR-2 which are basically OEM replacements but a little stiffer... Since i haven't dropped below the 1.5 i still have a warrenty... But for more information... read the faq on top of the page...

Re: Coilovers

ok then... you confuse me man.. You want coilovers and yet you cannont stand a lower cavalier...What the hell do you think coilovers DO!!!????? This whole post is like a retorical problem... You have a 2000 with that many miles... OMG.... i think its time for you to buy a new one... i have a 99 and i have only 52,800 miles on mine, you are spending soo much money into a car that has soo many miles its not worth it. If your thinkin your going to get loads of MOOLA out of it when you sell it... think again. You'd get a better return on your money if you part the car out and sell it stock.... u really need to search before you post again.

look at the sig below... thats lowered 1.7 front and 2.3 rear on Dropzone springs... while i admit the ride sucked... the difference from then to now is dismal.... i get lot of compliment from having it lowerd...

Re: Coilovers

i just rebuilt my fucking motor i have been working on cars for years. my suspension has 155000 miles on it and i want something different. i heard coilovers where good and sporty. and why the hell would i want to sell my car. i bought the cavalier for gas miliage at first but when i had to get rid of my truck i needed some horsepower, at the same time i blew the timing all to hell and basically redid most of the motor. it is pretty fresh but has a lag. i need new suspension. i am redoing the exhaust because i firgure that is the next step for me to get some sort of horsepower. if i was looking to spend not alot of money for horsepower i would just spend $300 and buy a 350 and drop in back into a truck. lord knows i had plenty of fun with my old one. you might think 150,000 miles is alot but for someone like me it is something to brag about.

Re: Coilovers

Well let me put it this way... Coilovers are the answer to people who want a way to lower their car and be able to adjust the hight to their likings.. Lowering springs are the same, but are not adjustable. When you have purchased Quality ones the benifts are amazing... While mounting these to your Stock OEM struts... it will be the worst ride and the most dangerous for the fact your struts will be blown in a matter of months... SO either way you go, you need to buy good struts that can handle the high spring rates.... Suspension upgrades are not cheap... My springs alone costed 250 and new struts all the way around was another close to 300...

Re: Coilovers

OK listen, i know that if i lower my car i will have to buy new struts. That is a pretty known fact. I think lowered cavaliers are the shittiest thing i have ever seen so i don't want to do that. All i was asking was if coilovers where a good suspension. I never asked about their lower capabilities because i already knew all about that. ALL I WANT TO KNOWIS IF THEY ARE A GOOD SUSPENSION.

Re: Coilovers

ok ok... yes they are. By like i said b4... there are some out there that are crap.... you get what you pay for... But due to the nature of coilovers they have a really high spring rate... even if you don't lower your car.. you will still need a strut that can handle it.

Re: Coilovers

If you don't want to lower it, why use coilovers?!? I think it would be a waste of money.

Re: Coilovers

Hey Cavalierguy2000, why are you so defensive?

You sure seem to be awfully tense and strangely uninformed. You say you have been working on cars for years, but you don't know what coilovers do, nor what kind of header has the most advantages. You say you bought the Cavy for gas mileage, yet you want to put full exhaust and suspension on it.

Your confusing a lot of people, so don't get bitchy when someone calls you on it.

Re: Coilovers

Listen damn it. i was wondering what other people where doing with their exhaust. and as for coilovers i knew exactly what they did i was wondering what people thought of them for suspension. like i said before i am a v8 kind of guy i am not used to four cylinders. and after all my mods that i have done i still am making 35 miles per gallon thank you.
