Rookie To 3kgt World...Got a "?"

Ok i will prolly be getting my 94 yellow (custom pj) 3000gt SL. It was a shame it was an SL but it is in my price range, $6995. I am curious if the car is a good deal or not for all it is. It has 107k miles and has dark tint, and is an automatic (shame). I have one more question, if this purchase does not fall through. I prolly wont find a vr4 for less than 7 grand so i have to go with the SL. I want to know if there is another way to tell if a 3kgt is a SL or base model. I do not want the SOHC what so ever from what i have heard. So what are the other ways to tell if the car is an SL or base besides the SL on the back or under the hood? I dont want to get screwed.

Congrats on the new car and there's nothing wrong with an n/a 3S... don't listen to the tt guys who might give you crap . $7K for 94 SL with 100K+ miles doesn;t sound too bad. The sticker on my base was $7K and it was a 93 with 71K miles. If everything is in good working order, you can try and talk the seller down a bit.

And just what's wrong with having a base sohc? Hmmmm ok, well reading that question... it kinda answers itself doesn't it. Oh well

Sounds like a middle of the road deal. It also sounds like you want a manual, I say hold out for one and you may even find a better deal on it, just keep checking autotrader.com if you don't need a car immediatly.

They have some trouble with the syncros, but electrical and clutch problems don't come up often at all, never in recent months on the forums.

no not really any car that you have if you drive the hell out of it and abuse it then it will have obviously problems with it. and too the guy asking what the dif between the sl and base it depends on the year of the car.

91-96 base and sl models are 222 hp
97-99 base 161 hp
97-99 sl 218 hp

also the dif between sl and base is a few things like sunroof/moonroof, electric seats, adjustable shocks, leather seats. I would recommend a 91-96 sl with low miles. i currently have a 91 sl mint with only 51k miles on it for 7500 the guy wants too much but i can talk him down a grand i hope.

well my 94 SL was $6995 with 88k on it, i'd get that price dropped at least to $6k, there's better deals than that out there. And you'll probably be slightly dissapointed with an automatic, find a manual...trust me, I converted mine from automatic and now i'm much much more satisfied.

sounds like an alright deal, but if you don't mind first gens, you could look for a first gen VR4. i got my VR4 for only 6 Grand (5900 actually but it was a dealership and you know stuff gets added in) mine has 109k with new(er) tranny.
