Period tuning.

More questions that won't manifest themselves into models for months or years:

I've become increasingly interested in period tuning cars (for lack of a better term), as in tuning cars as they would have been tuned at a certain point in time, not contemporary.

My first period modded car was going to be Revell's '32 Ford, which I wanted to do in a 50's style. I need a flathead (RMoM), skinny whitewalls (Revell rat rods) and a rear end (still looking) for it and it should be simple.

My next idea was a Skyline 2000 GTR and a Fairlady 240Z, which I would build up in early 70's style, and the same like factory cars. Watanabes and so forth. Where can I find period racing or sport seats and exhausts and so forth? The idea with these were to also build a 350Z and R34 by the "same tuner" 30 years later.

My latest idea is a period CRX, tuned early 90's style. Seats and exhausts have changed a lot in 15 years, and I need to source some of these, too. I have a set of period Mugen rims for it, so I'm set there.

Anyone got any kits I could canibalize for parts from each of these periods of tuning history? I'm really interested in taking a historical perspective (imagine that, huh Mike?) with my models instead of updating them all. Any help is, as always, much appreciated.

seats would be a hard item to find, unless it's an old kit that came with old style race buckets and such. for instance, i have an s11 nissan silvia with old style race seats. for my gx71 and ae86 i just use the bucket seats from the aoshima drift parts set. i also try to keep my rims period correct, i.e. ssr or watanabe on my old school japanese cars, and volk racing rims for my early to mid-90's hondas. as for exhausts, you might want to look into the fujimi metal mufflers. if you're going to use an exhaust on an old school skyline or a 240z i would recommend the megaphone style muffler, slash tip, or trap open type mufflers.

Re: Period tuning.

Oooo. Just wait till I get hope to nag you about it...like that Ford. Um, I might have some parts for canibalization if you need them. I have an Integra/RSX that I have been canibalizing parts of for my hot rods.
