If you have the 3.5L engine, I would check your front motor mount on the radiator support, particularly the front piece (referred to as the "support bracket") with the square bushing in it. I just replaced it on my GF's car. I is a dealer-only part (GM Part # 10271462) and it cost around $50. It didn't rid of her noise completely, but it definitely dampened it.

I have the 3.8 engine and I just may try to replace the Hub/bearing. I just hope it is comming from the front right. I do know that noise can be hard to track down.

Hey Rolm, glad it fixed the car, how about telling us how you did it, how easily did it come apart, did you need the axle puller, etc?

The job was very straight forward. You will need the following a 35mm-36mm socket, breaker bar to remove Wheel Hub center bolt or an impact wrench ( I have an electric impact wrench and it has to be one of the best tools I have)

Here are the steps

1-remove the large center hub bolt, (I used my elec. impact wrench)

2-remove tire

3-remove breaks

4-remove 3 bolts that hold the hub, at this point my hub just fell out ( if it doesn't fall out use a hammer to tap out the hub if that does not work then you may have to use a puller)

5-carfully remove hub be carefull on the antilock plug very tight opening but it will come out.

6-install new hub and other stuff and you are done, Took me 1-1/2 hours. I bet I can do same job in a 1/2 hour.

Note: Most repair centers will only charge 1-hour labour. If you don't want to do it it's not that expensive. The dam part is costly

So what size socket did you actually buy a 35 or a 36? From where did you obtain the socket?

Re: Front-end Noise at 40mph & 60mph

I have a similiar problem-several times now. I am looking for my receipt which names the part and part#. My car was brand in Oct 98 (Intrigue 99 GLS, 138K Mi) and after a few days I felt a vibration thru the steering wheel. It some kind of stabalizer bar or idler arm or suspension bar. The 1st mechanic at the dealer said yeah that was common. Fixed it the first try. A couple of years later it came back. The original mechanic was no longer avail, so I had to take to 3, yes 3, different dealers. Finally, with the last one, I insisted the Service Manager drive w/me so I can show him the problem. Some of these never test drive the car. The vibration/knocking started again a few weeks ago. I'm taking into the shop this week for an oil change and estimate for this vibration issue. I just want to have the part #/description on hand because I don't feel like wasting time taking it back and forth. If anyone had the same issue and knows what I'm talkin' about, please post the name of the part. thanks!
