I have a lot to learn! Want to help?

This is my first post to the Blazer forum. For the last 12 years I have been driving a 1992 GMC Jimmy but I have no way to change my username. I just purchased a used 2002 Blazer LS and it looks like I am going to have a lot of questions.

First a little info about my Blazer. It is a 2 door, red with gray interior. Very clean with 36,200 miles, purchased from a local dealer without warranty. I think it has the 1SB Preferred Equipment Group because I have those options but dont have any from the next available group.

Now for a few questions.

I think it may have a warped rotor, when braking at slow speed I feel a bit of pulse from the break petal, is this common?

I would like to add an overhead console for the storage and compass. Are the 2 door the same as the 4 foor? Is the wiring harness for the console above the headliner already or do I need to add that also?

Is this model also considered an S10? I see items described for an S10 Blazer, are they bolt on or is S10 different?

I see a factory security system in the user manuel, where the lights flash and horn sounds if the door is opened without a key. Is this an option or standard. I see the "Security" light on the dash when I start the truck.

The cruise cotrol does not work. I have checked the fuse and it is good. What is the best way to determine what the problem is.

Thanks for any assistance with this. If not answered here where could I get this type information.

Dan

PS: I kept the Jimmy. It has over 200,000 miles on her and still runs good. She is going to be the one for driving on any ice days this winter and perhaps handed down to my younger brother, when he shows some responsibility

Hello, as far as the overhead console goes, I've heard that 02's+ have the wiring harness built in. It doesn't matter if you have 4 or 2 door, because the overhead console for these years is a short module that goes behind the rearview mirror. You should be able to get one off ebay for $35.

yours

You have an S-10 blazer. The full size blazers were similiar to a GMC Yukon/Chevy Tahoe. If you put a camper shell on an S-10 pickup you'd have your blazer, right?

You do have a security system on your blazer. As far as I know it's an optional item.

Cruise control diagnostics may be a dealer fix. Sucks that it's out of warranty. Pick up a Haynes or a Chiltons manual from Autozone or wherever promptly as they will answer alot of your questions in there for DIY's.

Pulse in the brake pedal is probably a bad rotor, but at 36,200 miles, I would definently wonder why. Rotors aren't hard to replace and anymore it's about the same price to replace them as to get them turned at a brake shop somewhere. These things do sometimes get stuck calipers or swelling brake lines. I've heard of it a couple of times on here.

Hope you enjoy the forum.

But they are essentially the same drivetrain.

So the S10 interior trim parts, exterior sheet metal, grill, bumpers, lights etc should be interchangable? I was thinking of changing to a billit grill and I could keep an eye out for an S10 overhead console.

Yes, not all the sheet metal will be interchangeable seeing the blazer doesn't have a bed etc.....

You you more or less get the idea.

Re: I have a lot to learn! Want to help?

I got the codes from the sticker on the inside glove box door and made a list of them. I searched for an RPO code list online and could not locate one. Where is this information available? I did find out the color is Medimum Red Metallic 9088 I would like to find out my interior colors and codes. Thanks, great forum.

Re: I have a lot to learn! Want to help?

I have a list of the RPO codes for the 02 Blazer. It's about three pages long. Send me your codes and I'll tell you what they mean. According to my book the only color code on the Service Parts Id label in the glove box is the exterior color, bottom row center. I don't see anything about interior colors listed.

Nope, you are wrong, the s-10 blazer which was from 1994 and older was an S-series frame. Had nothing to do with the bigger full size version other than the name.
