are these signs of a tranny replacement?
i have a 95 rodeo, i just replaced the timing belt a week ago and the ac belt? whatever the center belt is and it broke. after i got my car back i smell this burning smell and when the car stopped it would smoke out everywhere. after a day or two the smell went away. then this light wistiling noise appeared and then got louder then i noticed when it shifts(automatic trans) from gear to gear it would jump up to 4-5 rpms only did it like one or two times a day then from every stop to cant drive it at all. pulled out the trans dip stic and fluid is brownish and at the correct level. is the tranny blown or is this something elese? if it is approx how much does this operation cost?

This could be a lot of things
. Your 4L30E could be in limp / failsafe mode due to a faulty range sensor, or low sytem voltage due to a bad, or crappy aftermarket alternator or weak battery. You could just be low on ATF, which the 4L30E wont stand at all. Are you uncertain of the maintenance history of the unit? Given the age & condition of the ATF, the tranny could be a lost cause . The 4L30E does need regular ATF changeouts to make it to 100,000 miles and well beyond. Do search on these things & you'll see lots of info. You could try partial ATF swaps to see if things improve. You will be out a couple grand for a replacement 4L30E & installation.G/luck Joel
