Suggestions for Flywheel

Just wondering what some of you would recomend as a good flywheel for my ZC. I know several members on here have one and the best way to find out how well a product works is by hereing cutomer reviews.

Just dont get the lightest one becuase you think it will be the best.

sure, it will make your car rev super quick, but it will also drop super quick. this means you have to shift gears very very quickly which usually means synchro wear. Also, even shifting fast, the rpm may drop below the rpm where the gear ratio for the next gear may pickup. this means you'll be putting more stress on the clutch and drivetrain from the engine speed jerking back up to the rpm determined by the next gear ratio, much like shifting too fast with a stock flywheel, i.e. you let out the clutch before the rpm have matched the rpm where the next gear ratio will make it fall, only adding clutch and drivetrain stress and actually making the car slower.

Also, dont forget that a lightened flywheel can make the car more difficult to launch as when you let out the clutch, there is less inertial force to keep the engine spinning.

IMO, get a flywheel thats around 12 lbs or so and i guarantee you will be very happy.

i have 2 friends with integras who both have light flywheels with performance clutches. One has a 4 door with a stock LS with an 8lb ACT flywheel and Exedy clutch. His tranny got worn out pretty quick after he got his flywheel, but his motor was also swapped bc it was a little messed up (this happened within like 6 months of eachother). My other friend who used to own the 4 door now has a 2 door and he has a 12lb ACT flywheel and an Exedy clutch. He hasnt had any problems and he swapped in a B16a in june the day before graduation. Both still have their cars and neither have had problems with the flywheels and both noticed about the same power difference, except my friend with the 4 door spins tires alot more. He spun tires in 3th gear at 35mph just by stomping the gas. I would go for a 12 lb just to save your tires lol.

dont get a real cheep one, there usually not balanced well and will throw off the rotation.

i say go ACT with an exedy clutch like my friends theyre really nice.

will a flywheel for 5 speed be the same as for an automatic?

i disagree and say go with the lightest you can find like the act or exedy flywheels

the only real problem with light flywheels is people arent used to it and my stall alot.
as for damage to the clutch and transmission; it seems all the same to me; a heavy flywheel would hold it at where you let off the clutch; so when you put it in the next gear the transmission is going to force the revs to drop. actually if you thinkin about it the lightweight flywheel is actually reducing the amount of load on the clutch after shifts; when the transmission is going to force the engine to change rpm it also has to slow down or speed up the heavier flywheel; which puts more stress on the transsmision/clutch. the clutch is supposed to smoothen out the transistion anyways(hence why some of the street clutch use springs to dampen the force)

I got the 12lb. ACT flywheel and the Exedy street/strip clutch. It burned out my Si tranny within 2k miles of driving with a proper clutch break-in, but my Si tranny had high miles so I just replaced it and it's nice.

maybe all this tranny wear is from people starting to drive there car harder now that it revs quicker and it make them faster

I've driven my car the same way since I've bought it... like I stole it. Plus, my tranny had 183k miles on it, if it was the original... basically, the syncros all fried even with a new bearing kit. As for other people, I couldn't say...
