Clutch Safety Switch.

Well in my case I had the same problem, and I even took my starter out, took it to the auto parts store, they tested it, it was just fine. Well anyways if you drive a stick, there's a little thing that presses on a button to let your car know that you have the clutch completely depressed before you start your car, for safety purposes of course. My trick was to get a penny and some electrical tape and wrap it around where the old rubber knub was at before it broke.

I had the same problem with my 94 nissan sentra. One of the metal connectors to the battery was not allowing a charge to past through. Replace it and no more problems.

Re: 94 nissan won't start

sounds like the starter sylenoid. try haveing someone tap your starter with a hammer while you are trying to start the car. if it starts then its time to get a new one. most cases the vehicle will start if this is the problem. but it also means you'll need a new starter. another thing....check you fuses......and clean your ground wires

Re: 94 nissan won't start

My 1993 sentra was having the same problem as funkydbone. I even had the starter replaced. I see that clutch switch under the dash that meets the clutch when depressed. I will try the tape and penny and also, attempt to adjust the switch "out" some. But, can that switch go bad??

if that switch is bad, you can disconnect the harness and put a jumper across the terminals. just remember to put it in neutral OR hold the clutch in when you go to start the car, otherwise you will probably hit a parked car. don't get your clutch safety switch confused with the ASCD (cruise control) cancel switch. the ASCD switch is mounted so that it's pressed in when the clutch pedal is normal (not engaged). the clutch safety switch is mounted further down, and is only pressed when the clutch is to the floor.

of course, it could also be a bad wire connection, ignition switch, solenoid, a dead spot on the commutator, fusible link, etc...

the best place to start is to put it in neutral, set the parking brake, and take a screwdriver across the 2 thick terminals on the starter solenoid. on the GA16DE engine, locate the starter by looking closely underneath the master cylinder. the starter is on the drivers side towards the firewall. if the starter spins now, you've eliminated the starter and solenoid as a possible cause.

THANKS FOR THE VALUABLE INFO. THE STARTER SHOULD BE GOOD. IT IS NEW. I THINK IT IS THE CLUTCH SWITCH. FOR A WHILE, I HAD TO REALLY PRESS THE CLUTCH DEEP TO GET A START. NOW NOTHING. THANKS AGAIN, S-KNUCKS

Re: 94 nissan won't start

you may want to have the fusable link that runs between the battery and the ignition switch. I had this problem with my car cause I let someone else jump my car and this person struck the jumper ends together while the other ends were connected to my car. I ended up costing my like 20 bucks to have someone trace it and install a new fusable link.
