94 ZJ sometimes shudders and turns off

Alright, I have a 94 JGC laredo 6 liters,, This has only happened a few times since i got it in June,, when i am backing or switching from reverse to drive only when i have the steering wheel fully turned the car starts to shudder and shake and sometimes turns off but everything else is working, cd player lights everything works fine but the engine quits. can turn back the ignition and restart and it works fine... has only happened while turning around in the driveway or after backign out of the driveway and shirting into drive.... does anybody have any suggestions?

I believe it to be the IAC (Idle Air Control) Valve. it sounds like it is not operating properly- should open to allow more air (power) to compensate for the added stress from the Power Steering Pump, and the Transmission.

If if shudders and shakes it could be your torque converter locking up. Does it show any codes?

where would it show codes?

yea, but if it was the TCC it would stall in reverse as well.
Maybe try checking the tranny fluid level, it could be low and interfering with the TCC, but I would look more at the IAC Valve.

I think u deffinately have an Idle Air Control Valve issue.

well today it turned off again, but all the other functions were working except this time it was different, it was chilly out, foggy not too cold though, i was parked in the grass, i back up into the driveway turning so i could go out the driveway front first.. anyways it has always been after swtching into drive WITH the wheel turned all the way, but this time it was completely straight when it turned off and then also it was different from other times in that in the past it always started right back up and this time i turned the key and it wouldn't turn on.. waited like 10 seconds and tried again, didn't work so i got out of the car to go inside and it smelled like gas, then i got back in like a minute later and it worked

well I wish I could give u the instructions for the IAC test, but when I tried to test mine I came up with nothing, the haynes manuals says it should be a certain number on certain terminals but mine came up with nothing so I'm not sure about the test, maybe someone else has a Chilton or FSM that has the correct test for the IAC. and the haynes says u will need a scan tool to accurately test the IAC valve. I am still thinking it's the IAC valve.
