how do i modify car seats

I've seen all of those tight car and truck seats with part of the seat one color and the other part another, how do you do that?

And also how do you make different designs on the seats or the fabric?
How do you change the fabric of the seats?

And one last thing, how would you make designs on the inside panel of the doors as well as changing the colors of those too.

Can someone PLEASE HELP ME.

Its called customizing hehe.... you can get it done through a company like JC whiteny for around 400 or if u can sew or know someone who does then prolly just the cost of materials... or most people buy racing seats from companies like Sparco. If your not down for the racing seats or cant sew... try a automotive customizing shop or upolstorer or like i said JC whiteny! good luck!

Re: how do i modify car seats

60-80 bucks in dye is all it will cost to do the seats real good like this and its quick and easy to do.
Heres a sample of what I did to mine with dye bombs this seat itself costed me 20 dollars to dye (both colors) SEM vinyl carpet dye "black" and Hi Tec Vinyl carpet dye "blue"

I did this on a budget for myself the entire interior dye costed me 140 dollars for the vinyl carpet and seats , the headliner will cost me an additional 20 bucks worth of black die. The dye dries and feels natural on headliners but will be rough for a bit on carpet and fabrics untill it gets used a bit then it softens and is natural feeling in texture.

Re: how do i modify car seats

Im sorry , by the way the seats stayed intact there was no reapholstering or sewing involved. All I did was prep/mask (taped off the centers) dyed the black then I masked around the centers and bombed the centers blue. I used about 4-6 coats evenly you can see the color solidify stroke by stroke as it becomes even in texture and looks. Also after it dries you can use a vinyl carpet brush to soften it down after but I just sit in them and in a day or two there soft.

i personally dont like how dye jobs look, i would just eather go with a set of aftermarket seats or just take the old seats out, take off the fabric, use the fabric as templates and make new covers with whatever you want, its really not that hard and if you really dont want to sew it yourself you can take it to any compatant upholsterer and have them do it for a small fee.

Or you can ask your mom to sew it, seriously, most moms know how to sew and pretty damn good too. Just take it off your self like lucki said, then make a template go to mommy, and ask her to do what ever you want with it

Re: how do i modify car seats

Heh thats so hilarious but true lmao I also do reapholstering (sewing and pattern reading) but my car is old and wont be with me for more than 3-4 more years thats why I chose to dye them and its quicker. Actually its funny how my understanding of stitch seams plays a part in making the pattern for what Im gonna change. If the pattern doesnt follow a seam I dont do it cus a line in the middle of nowhere on fabric kinda sucks. When I reapholster seats I use 20lbs test black fishing line good solid fabric with the edges over laped on the template and fabric glued to match the template or pattern. When I sew the edges are doubled up so they wont seperate with a tight stitch. I use various taxedermy sewing needles as well as a sewing machine to set the pattern pieces together then reinforce with the fishing line and taxedermy needles. I didnt learn this from detailing I learned it from high school lol.

Re: how do i modify car seats

Im sorry I got threads all over the place here its crazy readin all this stuff but these are my faves so i am really sorry. I bought my dyes from Detail franchises , they are stores in a cube van like snap on. Production Car Care , Pro Detail Supply , Ducan , Luster Glaze , Car Brite , Auto Magic and my fave Protec Seal Manufacturing. I get SEM dyes from Pro Detail , Hitech Dyes from Ducan , Plasti Kote from UAP/Napa or Production Car care Suplies. My fave is SEM then HiTech.

Re: how do i modify car seats

Awesome!! I use SEM dye's too they work on all interior materials from vinyl to leather , carpets to valor. Its permanet tho so if you screw it up you have to resand it and respray. I really like the seats Markgase2000 was making. I never really considered using the dye for customizing it looks awesome! The more pictures I see from this guy the more ideas start popping in my head.
