Re: Whats the best car for a good sleeper (10k'ish)

i think a 240 woud make a good sleeper. You can pick up an S13 for a 2000 or less and then spend the other on swapping the motor. U can put an SR20 in or you can put a RB20, RB25 would be really nice. That is what i what I plan to do

Re: Whats the best car for a good sleeper (10k'ish)

yeah vr4's are godly. But i must admit, they aren't verry sleeper...unless it's galant vr-4 that would be amazing.
I'd say go with an old rx7 or 3rd gen accord (www.3geez.com) the cars weigh 1600 LBS and the guys have completed b18c swaps. and turbos...they are nuts. get the hatch, and it's way under 10k.

Re: Whats the best car for a good sleeper (10k'ish)

how bout a stock looking festiva ($2000 -$5000) put a 125hp shot of wet nitrous ($800) heavy duty clutch and ultra light flywheel ($400-$1200) speed rated tires ($600) and youll get the sleeper of the year award for beating stuff like vettes with still under 200 hp lol but the only thing is if the nitrous gets used more than a couple times a day it blows the engine like a beer put in the freezer for too long lol or a v8 rwd transformation in a festiva *shrugs* posted cus I thought it was a funny idea

Re: Whats the best car for a good sleeper (10k'ish)

Why not something like an Eagle Summit? Light with Mitsubishi motor mounts. I'm not too much for rice burners but it seems like a good idea even though I don't have any idea what engine to drop into it yet. In fact I'm in the process of that and a 5.0 liter supercharged Mustang engined Ford LTD. I know you could get either car for under $500 leaving plenty of money for engine and mods. Both of these cars are definately sleeper class. Of course you're only a sleeper till you kill a Z06 or a hardcore 240SX or a tuned and powered up 454 Chevelle.

I think a great sleeper would be a second generation Madza RX-7 TurboII. You would probably pay around $5,000(ish) so that would leave you another $5,000 to do some great engine mods. My old friend owns a...1990 TurboII I think, and he wins A LOT of races against some really great cars. He has an APEXi exaughst system, front mount intercooler, slightly bigger turbo, APEXi engine managment system, and some 5 spoke MazdaSpeed wheels. Anyway theres an idea for you, hope that helps.

celica all-tracs aren't sleepers

theres a big gaping scoop in the hood that screams "turbo".

That's a good idea, I had a friend who bought a 1st gen RX7 for $500.00, with no driveline. Then he put in a Ford 302 with a stroker kit he bought for $1,500.00 and a tremec 3550 tranny man it's fast. He built it for well under $10,00.00

There was an issue of grassroots motorsports magazine where someone put a Tauraus SHO engine in a Festiva mid-ship like the SHO-gun conversion of old. Another guy put in a Focus SVT engine up front straight forward swap. There plenty of bolt ons for Focus engines and Festivas weigh dam near nothing. I'm not one for front drive but there are some interesting front drive combos now and on the horizon. How about a new ecotec engine in a Chevy Sprint (you know a Geo Metro)? I saw a Cadillac Northstar engine in a VW Golf and thought that was cool, but there was no room to perform basic maitanence.

Re: Whats the best car for a good sleeper (10k'ish)

91 Corolla with a 91 MR2 Turbo engine installed, still front wheel drive... The car and swap can be done for 5000 or less... You can get a 91 Corolla in top condition for 1000 bucks and the engine is 3000, mounts and installation can't be more than a grand. someone's done it before and it wasn't expected at all because a lot of Toyota owners are flakes (*points at stock corolla with altezza's in his driveway*)

Stock engine with radials, this car runs 12's. If you were to spend the other 5 grand on mods you could easily run 10's with stock rims on radials. Not a car listed here would be more sleeper than that. Just put groceries in the back seat and you're good to go.
