My day at the dealership.... :-/

Well ever since i bought this car back in oct 02 when i started it up, there has always been like a rattle or quick tinging noise comming from a componet in the serpentine belt loop.. Since It never got worse i passed it to the wind and took it as normal... Well last night i hooked up with some fellow J-body owners (6 of us) and when i went to park, i put it in reverse and it got wicked loud, i saw a Mac truck like 50 feet from me so i thought it was that at first, and nothing is wrong with my car, untill i shut mine off and it stopped... i poped my hood and started it back up... and sonfa bitch... it was my car.. I was like grrrreat!.. after just spending 200 bucks on new rotors, ceramic pads and new drums and shoes... I didn't have the moola to fork out anymore... no one there had a flash light to take a look see.... Geoff thought it was my idler pully while my guess was either the Idler or A/C compressor. Now that its almost 12 am... i wasn't gona bother with it.... so instead of going to school today i arrived at the dealership which i hate with a passion. I had no time to do this myself and while when i bought my car, i spent another 1660 and bought a warrentech extended warrenty to 5/100,000 full coverage and no deductable... the mechanic took it for a spin and said he heard a noise but couldn't pin point it as of yet... so i was in the garage bay, and he started it up... when i got there it really began to rattle... and i looked at him and said.... idler pully or A/C compressor?.. he goes... A/C.. i was like damn i'm good..... so while there was a slight freight i was gona get screwed by the warrenty company for my intake and exhaust because they try to not pay for the work... 11:45... a serive personnel.. approached me and said... well.... we just got the approval for us to replace your compressor with a brand new one and labor fee's... i was soo excited!... i asked him how much were they paying... he said $407.19... my jaw dropped... i asked him how much my cost?... he replied.. they get a discount on labor and parts.... so your price would run you just shy of 700 bucks... Man i am soo glad i bought that warrenty!... so a word of advice to you guys out that planning on buying a car... the extended warrentys are good ideas!... my car had 28K when i bought it but out of the 3 yrs. for factory.. and right now its only on 52K....

To clear a few things up.. i didn't pay anything for this.. If i didn't have my warrenty i would have had to pay 700. The warrenty place only paid the 400 somthing due to their discount..

wtf? $700?? Bring your car to my house i'll do it for 200.. lol

I replaced the A/C compressor on my car.. It's not very hard. Maybe 3 hour job. I would seriously find a new one and replace it yourself, 700 bucks...they're raping you.

Every Chevy I have bought new, I have always purchased the warranty. My new Cav is no differant! The warranty I have includes the tires which I have already had to use once. One tire had a key in it.

How would one go about getting an extended warrentee? How much does it cost, how much extra mileage do you get on it, and what does it cover? Sry, lotsa questions.. haha

Re: My day at the dealership.... :-/

You have to buy it when you sign the final papers when you buy the car.. Mine had extremly low miles but was out of the GM warrenty.. It had 28K somthing on it... Bought the car for 5900.. paid some moola in cash... came down to 5400, then the extended warrenty was offered to me at a price of 1660 extra with no deductable on work... with being a GM car i just bought it.. the final price was just shy of 7K... now different companies cover different things... This warrenty is good for 5yr/100,000 miles everything bumper to bumper, except wear and tear parts ( i.e. brakes, wipers, tires, etc.).. so far i have used it for them to pay for and the price they paid to have them fixed; new front strut mounts( now voided for my suspension upgrades) $225, A/C Compressor $407.12, Valve cover gasket $132 ( still waiting on refund for that one since the dealership said they weren't covered when they are! So i had to file my own claim and gezes.. i've got a check comming)... and its great only having 52,400 miles on the car and 3 yrs left on the warrenty... I'll probably hit the 5 yrs before the 100,00o miles since its going to be stored after next summer...
