96 5.2 Code #37

Posting here for a friend. PCM gives a code 37 : Part throttle unlock(PTU) in tourqe converter open or short detected. What should he do? where should he look? Says he has to drive it as if its a manual tranny, starting in 1 then 2 etc. Please help.

have the TCC (Torque Converter Clutch) Solenoid looked at, it may need replaced.

Unplug the TCC Solenoid and see if there is any change in the way it shifts. Sounds like the TCC solenoid is bad or there is a short in the wirring.
