The best thing to do when you get wheel hop is to get off the throttle right away cause you run a risk of breaking stuff like an axle or possibly damaging your gears in the rearend. I had a 88 full size jimmy with a 700r4 tranny 4:10 gears and 33" tires. It actually broke some teeth off of the ring gear in the rearend because of a combination of the tires/gearing and the shift kit in the trans. If i feathered the throttle off the line as to not spin the tires then mashed it to the floor , it would break them loose when it hit second. As for getting rid of wheel hop , you can buy/install a set of traction bars , also called ladder bars, or an even cheaper way is to go easier on the gas pedal

Calvert Racing makes a nice set of caltrac bars for our trucks. You won't have wheel hop anymore with those bad boys on.

Re: Re: wheel hop???

I had the similar wheel hop problem with my 2000 Silverado 2500 6.0L 4x4. After 80k miles, my original shocks were completely shot. I no longer have the problem after installing new Rancho RS9000x shocks all around.

Re: wheel hop???

Its when, for example, if your in the sand. You try to take off, and you spin. Notice how the truck jumps up and down and shakes. Its when the torque of the tires, actually bends the leaf springs into an S-shape for seconds..its not good .
