96 JGC Limited
I have a noise that sounds like it is coming from the rear end. (Somewhat of a grinding noise, grrrr) It has been with me for several years. 182,000 miles and love it. Finally took it in and had bad passenger rear axel, so replaced it and new bearings. Still made the nose. Replaced the driver side and bearings. Still making the noise.
The noise increase in intensity with the rpms, and does not make any at an idle. The mechanic said that there was no sign of wear in the rear diff. Did not replace anything in rear diff, except oil. The noise is louder on warm days, and after the jeep is driven a while. In the mid winter it is not very loud. (Indianapolis) It seems to be become louder when going around a sharp curve in one direction than in the other direction. The Jeep runs great but this noise is obnoxious. Advice....thanks in advance. |

I had the same problem, after I had the rear diff serviced. It took a while for the noise to start, but when it did, it sounded like grinding. So I stopped, and felt the rear diff, and wheel bearings for heat. Nothing was out of the ordinary. It turned out to be that, the service place put the wrong type of fluid back in the diff. I have a limited slip differential, and they need an additive in the fluid for better lubrication. Hope this helps.

Re: 96 JGC Limited
Had a similar problem coming from rear passanger side. All it was, was a loose bolt on the rear stabilizer bar.
