Re: 49 Merc ... quick rod

Welp, dare to be different, thats what I always say. Your rod, your paint. Im just thinking that the way your interior looks, and if your still gonna use those wide whites, those flames are way too modern and "edgy" for that car. Seems to take away from teh smoooooooothness of it. Gives it a very crazy feel. And that doesnt go well with the rest of the car, IMO.

But, thats just my pair o' pennies.

Small delay ... Rather big problem. I had the body smoothed out and ready for masking for the flames, then dropped the hood chipping the front edge. This wouldn't be a big deal since it would be painted over with the flame color. But... on closer inspection I noticed the finish color could easily be peeled off.

I had painted it flat black to start, then decided to go gloss. I simply painted over the flat black. Well it looks like the finished gloss black is not sticking to the flat black. The primer is stuck good to the metal and flat black to the primer. I used Walmart primer, the flat black was Duplicolor and the gloss black was Krylon. I'm guessing there's some incompatibility here.

So I will be stripping it down again and starting over. This time I am using Duplicolor from start to finish. I also have AutoAir automotive colors for the flames which I'll dig out and clean my airbrush for.

Now I know I'll be stripping it down, I went ahead and polished out part of the top to see how smooth I could get it... MAN this is as good as it gets!!!! No orange peel, no fine scratches, like glass!! Too bad I muff'd it

.....

Re: 49 Merc ... quick rod

Just put some black flames on the bare metal and call it good.

The make a decal that says "JST4MKY" on the license plate.
