Supercharger in '97 LeSabre. New Computer?

hello,
i just purchased a new supercharger online off a late '90s Park Avenue Ultra to put in my '97 LeSabre. just wondering if i would need to simply get the computer programed or have it changed out with a P.Ave. computer. if i'd have to swap, would the wiring harness match? thanks for reading.

Re: Supercharger in '97 LeSabre. New Computer?

The wiring harness in the 1997 will not match the wiring harness for a 1990 with a completely different engine.

The engine diagnostic sensors on a 1997 engine will not match the sensors on a 1990 engine at all. Starting in 1996 all cars were required to comply with OBD-II standards, and thus many engine sensors were added.

The 1997 and 1990 use completely different computers. The 1997 accounts for likely several hundred additional variables that the 1990 computer does not. The 1997 will use a PCM style computer, the 1990 uses an ECM style computer. One will not plug into the others wiring harness, nor do the wires match up in any pattern.

In all likely hood, the supercharger of a 1990 engine will not even be capable of mounting to the 1997 engine. The 1997 uses a Series-II engine and is several generations past the 1990.

Beyond that, you'd have to move several engine components out of the way, which will change the belt route. Most superchargers use a seperate belt, which means you'd also have to compensate for an additional belt tensioner and a different crankshaft pully. These cannot simply be removed from a 1990 engine and mounted to a 1997 engine, the holes to not exist, custom brackets would have to be made. Plus, the crankshaft pulley is also the harmonic balancer, and is unique to that model engine.

Re: Supercharger in '97 LeSabre. New Computer?

i'm sorry avatar, i should have posted that the supercharger was off a 1996-1998 model park avenue instead of just saying a late 90's model. not to be a jerk, but i think you may have misread my forum and mistook 90's for 90. my fault. thanks for the reply though, you are correct with what you say.
