I honestly wasn't expecting to see this. While it is well documented that the US military have no respect for human rights regarding prisoner abuse. And while they have shown they are inept at telling friend from foe, or precision striking anything where cicilians are nearby. We have seen tanks, jets, missiles and helicoptors misguided in attacks on civilians. But i honestly did not excpect to SEE, and am disappointed, that this has actually occurred.

I fully expect marines to kill innocent people by accident, however i did not expect to see them murdering unarmed people in this manner, whether they are innocent or not.

I'm very surprised (well, not really) that this report made it out considering it came from an embed.

Why? - because leaving aside the obvious account of the incident, the report narrative and video are heavily loaded with subliminal suggestions and stereotype reinforcements.

I can spot at least 4 without even putting my tin hat on. I don't intend to enter into debate about what they are or aren't - just flag it for people if they want to take a more critical look.

This might actually surprise some of you, but I can understand why that soldier acted that way. I don't condone it, but I can empathise with him in terms of what has occured to bring him to that point. All you need to do is listen carefully to the tone in his voice before the shooting and compare it with his tone afterwards.

Now, if you wish to continue claiming that America has the moral high ground,steps have to be taken to ensure that this is based on fact and not merely on rhetoric. This incident clearly breaches what is commonly held to be acceptable behaviour in a theatre of war [although such incidents happen frequently in any war], and the evidence is on film for all to see.There can be no question that the man was shot while on the ground, unarmed, and not threatening harm to anyone.


aloharocky asks - Why all the outrage? In return I'd ask, at what point would you draw the line? Would you still defend the soldier if he was raping a 12 year old girl in front of her family? Because so far,I am struggling to see any comprehension of civilised behavior on your part.

There is outrage because this soldier's behaviour is outrageous.Simple as that.

And the Marine who did this had just been shot in the face the day before, and the platoon just lost a man to a boobytrapped dead body within the 10 minutes before! Given the situation, what would you do?!
