Mercon V in 2000 Tauras ......Synthetic?

I bought a 2000 Tauras with 90k on it...It needs 1/2 quart of trans. oil..
Most of what I find are synthetic blend (Castrol, AAMCo, etc.)...what I'm
concerned about is that I've been told that the synthetic blends do not mix with non-synthetic oils......Does the 2000 Tazuras come with the
synthetic oil?....I've heard the Ford dealerships charge $16.00 a qt for their product....The Auto zone oils are around $3.00/qt for the syn.
blends and $2.59 for the one brand that does not indicate that it is synthetic al all.... Any advice is appreciated

If it were mine I would change the fluid and filter immediatley and add a transcooler to it.

The Mercon V is a semisynthetic from what I have read about it.

I run Mobil 1 Full synthetic in my 2000 and it has 130K on it.

Manual for my '02 requires Mercon V, check the book before you take any chances. Ford parts charges $7 where I live for Motorcraft V, Castrol V is $2.82 @ Wal-Mart. Takes about 7 1/2 qts to drain and fill, be prepared for a mess.

Thanks for the info....I finally called the Ford Parts here and found the Motorcraft Mercon V was only $3.50 ...and they say it is not synthetic....I'll go for that ..... Feel safer with original product since there is so much uncertainty about the synthetics and such....Thanks again...I'm curious about where all this about Ford charging $16 or so came from...maybe thats what they charge when they change it for you...
