check engine light
I was just wondering if anyone has experienced this problem.
I have a 99 sunfire with only 38,000 kms. Where i live, we are going through a deepfreeze, -45 degrees celcius and we just had a large dumping of snow. To say the least, its been very cold the last few days and up to our knees in snow. The sunfire hasnt been started for 4 days, however, it has been plugged in to keep the block warm. When we started the car, the check engine light remained on and the traction control (ETS) is not responding when i click the botton on the shifter. The car runs and sounds normal except for the darn check engine light and the (ETS) not working. I am guessing that the cold weather and being snowed in might be causing this and am hoping that as it gets warmer, this might just clear itself. Any thoughts??????? Hoping that its not something serious. |

Re: check engine light
Best bet is to go somewhere like Auto Zone where they do computer readings for free... You may have a bad O2 sensor, its the most common problem with J cars and it causes the dummy engine light to come on, you wont run into any real problems with that though. As far as the ETS light not responding. what do you mean? not coming on or turning off. Once again it could be figured out by having the computer checked. or making sure your E-Brake is fully released.. Hope this info is useful for you

Apparently after the big snow storm, the snow had packed under the hood restricting the fan from working. This caused the fuse for the fan motor to burn out. Whenever the check engine light comes on, it is normal for the ETS to not function. To say the least..it was a inexpensive repair which was about 30 bucks. |

yep you hit that one on the nail!!
not only did it burn the fuse but the motor for the cooling fan also total cost 160$ not to bad... |

Re: check engine light
I took it into Autozone, they used the scan tool and it indicated the coolant fan system, hopefully its just the fuse and not the motor. Any suggestions on where I can get a coolant fan motor for cheap ? ? ? ?
