The globe is getting warmed in some spots and cooler in others. The US has had its coolest summer in a long time. The northern ice sheet is melting, but the southern is growing.

Perhaps a distinction should be drawn. If the globe is warming (and given that the average temperature has dropped, its a tough sell) most reasonable people will blame the sun. The last eruption from Mt. St. Helens put more co2 and sulfer dioxide in the air then anything produced by humans for the whole year.

And the Mt Pinatubo eruptions in 1991 put out more pollution in one shot than ALL the cars in ALL of the 20th century COMBINED!!!

People aren't "sunburning faster" these days, where did that drivel come from? Sun-tans weren't even popular until the late-50's and we're just now seeing the cancerous effects of prolonged exposure.
Just because someone has a differing opinion from you doesn't make them "retarded" and only 20% of the world's scientist even give this theory and creedance...

[quote=lazysmurff] and the muhammed atta part, yeah, that was a huge blunder. but it was impossible for clinton to know what atta was going to do in the future.

But Bush was supposed to know? LOL I've heard that at least a hundred times from the left.

Re: Thank you, Mr. Clinton!

ok...lets assume that gobal warming is just a big pile of bull shit.

Don't you think it makes a bit of sense that we as Americans who are some thing like 5% of the world population should stop makeing some thing like 25% of the worls pollution, and stop useing 25% of the world's resources?

Does that make sense. Or am i just a tree hugging hippe?

Re: Thank you, Mr. Clinton!

Honestly, Why would we be concerned about alternate fuels if gas fumes weren't affecting the atmosphere?

Actually, more UVrays come through the atmosphere than ever before which causes sunburn. Good job.

I apologize for my earlier actions but I was severly offended. Honestly, since my dad works in air polution control, if global warming was a myth, he would have no job.

Probably because fossil fuels are finite. Also because of all of the treehugging hippies who are complaining. Its just gotten so annoying.

Nobody is saying that there isn't air pollution. Nobody is saying that the US isn't the biggest user of fossil fuels. However, that does not mean that the usage of those fuels are causing the globe to get warmer.

As stated before. The amount of greenhouse gasses pumped into the atmosphere by humans is dwarfed by what the planet does for itself. The planet has gone through hot and cold cycles for billions of years. Forcasters can't get next weeks weather predicted, but they can tell you what temperature the planet will be in a hundred years?

Try our summer out. We regularly have days where you will achieve sunburn within a few (read 3-4) minutes of exposure.

It wasn't like that 15 years ago.

Of course, the fact that we are closest to the ozone hole has nothing to do with it

The other side of pollution, whether man made or otherwise, is that deforestation is reducing the planet's ability to maintain or restore oxygen levels.

Even if you think man's contibution to pollution is insignificant, you can't deny that destroying the resources that keep the atmosphere breathable is a bad idea.

Americans also have a larger lang mass to cross. Americans aren't as concentrated as the rest of the world. Many contries only have major populations on the coast cities we don't. Granted the majority are on the coast but not all. That's why we burn more fossil fuel than anyone else.

Oh, so we as American's should jump on this pollution gig so your dad can stay employed?
Of course we create the most pollution (soon to be eclipsed by China) as we are the biggest consumer society, a fact the tree-huggers hate. If you look at the Kyoto Treaty, Sierra Club goals, and the general environmental crowd they have one thing in common, hatred for capitolism and consumerism.
On the other hand, what country is better prepared to clean-up pollution than the U.S.? They are dozens of environmental companies in every town...

I recently saw a bumper sticker that said, "Thank me, I voted for Clinton-Gore." So, I sat down and reflected on that, and I am sending my "Thank you" for what you have done, specifically:

1. Thank you for introducing us to Jennifer Flowers, Paula Jones, Monica Lewinsky, Dolly Kyle Browning, Kathleen Willey and Juanita Broderick. Did I leave anyone out?

2. Thank you for teaching my 8 year old about oral sex. I had really planned to wait until they were older to discuss it with them, but now they know more about it than I did as a senior in college.

3.. Thank you for showing us that sexual harassment in the work place (especially the White House) and on the job is OK, and all you have to know is what the meaning of "is" is. It really is great to know that certain sexual acts are not sex, and one person may have sex while the other one involved does NOT have sex.

4. Thank you for reintroducing the concept of impeachment to a new generation and demonstrating that the ridiculous plot of the movie, "Wag the Dog" could be plausible after all.

5. Thanks for making Jimmy Carter look competent, Gerald Ford look graceful, Richard Nixon look honest, Lyndon Johnson look truthful, and John Kennedy look moral.

6. Thank you for the 73 House and Senate witnesses who have pled the 5th Amendment and 17 witnesses who have fled the country to avoid testifying about Democratic campaign fund raising.

7. Thank you, for the 19 charges, 8 convictions, and 4 imprisonments from the Whitewater "mess" and the 55 criminal charges and 32 criminal convictions (so far) in the other "Clinton" scandals.

8. Thanks also for reducing our military by half, "gutting" much of our foreign policy, and flying all over the world on "vacations" carefully disguised as necessary trips. It seems you have been campaigning for Secretary General of the United Nations since your reelection in 1996.

9. Thank you, also, for "finding" millions of dollars--- I really didn't need it in the first place, and I can't think of a more well deserving group of recipients for my hard-earned dollar than jet fuel for all of your globe-trotting. I understand you, your family and your cronies have logged in more time aboard Air Force One than any other administration. Good luck on your continued campaign to be King of the world.

10. Now that you've left the White House, thanks for the 140 pardons of convicted felons and indicted felons-in-exile. We will love to have them rejoin society

11. Thanks also for removing the White House silverware. I'm sure that Laura Bush didn't like the pattern anyway. Also, enjoy the housewarming gifts you've received from your "friends."

12. Thanks to you and your staff in the West Wing of the White House for vandalizing and destroying government property on the way out. I also appreciate removing all of that excess weight (China, silverware, linen, towels, ash trays, soap, pens, magnetic compass, flight manuals, etc.) out of Air Force 1. The weight savings means burning less fuel, thus less tax dollars spent on jet fuel. Thank you!

13. And, please ensure that Hillary enjoys the $8 million dollar advance for her upcoming "tell-all" book and you, Bill, the $10 million advance for your memoirs. Who says crime doesn't pay?

14. The last and most important point - thank you for forcing Israel to let Mohammed Atta go free. Terrorist pilot Mohammed Atta blew up a bus in Israel in 1986. The Israelis captured, tried and imprisoned him. As part of the Oslo agreement with the Palestinians in 1993, Israel had to agree to release so-called "political prisoners." However, the Israelis would not release any with blood on their hands. The American President at the time, Bill Clinton, and his Secretary of State, Warren Christopher, "insisted" that all prisoners be released. Thus Mohammed Atta was freed and eventually thanked the US by flying an airplane into Tower One of the World Trade Center. This was reported by many of the American TV networks at the time that the terrorists were first identified. It was censored in the US from all later reports. Why shouldn't Americans know the real truth?

What a guy!! If you agree that the American public must be made aware of these facts, pass this on.

God bless America and THANK YOU (once again) for spending my taxes so wisely and frugally.

SINCERELY,
A US Citizen
PS. Please pass along a special thank you to Al Gore for "inventing" the Internet, without which I would not be able to send this wonderful factual e-mail.

AND THE REST OF THE STORY
It's common knowledge that in order for her to establish NY residency they purchased a million dollar-plus house in upscale Chappaqua, New York. Makes sense. They are entitled to Secret Service protection for life. Still makes sense. Here is where it becomes interesting.
Their mortgage payments hover at around $10,000 per month. BUT, an extra residence HAD to be built within the acreage to house the Secret Service agents.
The Clintons charge the Federal government $10,000 monthly rent for the use of that extra residence, which is just about equal to their mortgage payment. This means that we, the taxpayers, are paying the Clinton's salary, mortgage, transportation, safety and security, as well as the salaries for their 12 man staff-and, this is all perfectly legal!

When she runs for President, will
you vote for her?
I am new to this board and I couldn't be happier when I ran across this thread. Thank god (or whatever you believe) that sensible people are still among us. Good post.

"gas fumes" are more of a problem for the living beings on this planet.
Reducing the amount of dangerous end gas that inefficient combustion engines spew is a high priority.
The concerns are for all living things. I am not convinced however that the theories from some of these radical "tree huggers" are completely based on fact.
Bottom line we all want cleaner air, that should be the main goal.
As far as Global warming is concerned, its cause, is at best still theory in my mind.
Funny thing is that years ago there wasn't a way to accurately predict whether or not the amount of UVrays have increased, stabilized or decreased. How can an argument be made that says things are getting worse and the world is going to end when all we have is information that is primative at best.....
I want to go on for hours but I dont feel like typing too much on a sunday.
Fact is that many people are misinformed on various topics concerning the enviroment and politics.

of corse we should jump on this ppollution gig, that way we will create more jobs and then bush wont look so bad. of corse, as the democrats fail to mention, the job drop off was just a few months after 9/11 and that is expected and in the past year jobs have been gaining back like crazy. but it would be funny... republican tree huggin hippie's... wow what an oxymoron. but id be one of them.... ehhh not.... IMO i will be long dead before this sapposed global warming will have even the smallest of effects...so why do i care? i mean seriously... the rapture is due any century now any way... maybe it is sapposed to get hotter and we will have Clinton II and he will be the anti christ...
