Window mech broke and slid down channel

Tonight, I heard a loud pop as I lowered the driver's side window. Then, when trying to lower it further, it fell down into the window channel.

Anyone have a clue what the heck I did and what it will take to fix it?

I would actually settle for how to get the door panel off.

thanks

Larry

you have just managed to break one of BMWs finest POS window regulators with their plastic rollers. Cough up about $140 for a new one and replace it yourself.

Thanks. I took the door panel apart and found that there is a plastic thing the moved in a channel. The arm came out of it. When I put it all back together, and tried to put the window back up, it appeared that the arm was bending at the top and then the piece arm pulled out again. Bottom line, I put it back in the up position and left it there. No window, but no rain coming in.

POS window regulators.
Since you got that far with it you should be able to install the NEW one. A pulled part will just fail faster.

Also check your window motor and see if the teeth on it are shdread off by the regulator cables. THis happens at times and if it is you need a new motor. You dont wana put it all back together and find out the motor teeth just spin and dont even grab the regulator teeth.

Re: Window mech broke and slid down channel

The motor grabs without a problem. It went up and down, once. The next time, it appeared that the arms were flexing a lot and at one point, they just flexed so much that the arm pulled out of the plastic piece.

I guess once they pull out, they will always pull out, kind of like my bad shoulders.

I just didn't want to replace them, only to find out that something else was screwed up.

thanks again

Larry

Now off to find out why I had brake fluid leaking down my left rear tire. Guess it is a brake cylinder problem.

Re: Window mech broke and slid down channel

Could be a bad o-ring around the caliper piston. Or the obivious a bad hose. On my Nissan I had to replace the front right o-rings around the piston. Its not a had job, its just time consuming.
