I have a 1991 plymouth 3.3 V-6 automatic with A/C. The cable that controls the tempeture of the heater is binding up somewhere. I took the dash partialy down last weekend and after removing the radio I can see where the cable connects near the firewall, but can't get to it. The cable seems to be working ok but what ever it's connected to is binding up. It looks like it connects near where the heater control valve is under the engine compartment on the other side of the firewall. When I force the cable out by hand I get heat but not hot. When I force the cable in I get cold air and the A/C worked fine last summer.
My question is could the heater control valve be the problem, or do I have just have to keep removing the dash untill I can get to what ever it is connected. to. Thanks for all replies Ray |

Quote:
Get underneath heat duct system from passenger side. Drop the lower floor duct (3 8mm bolts-2 near gas pedal/ 1 undr passenger side) Pry the duct out of way and get your hand under the system at center, toward firewall. There I found the bottom of the steel rod that runs vertically through duct system, the flap is actuated by the rotation of the rod by the cable (at top= un-accessible).SO.. I put visegrips (needlenose =best) on the bottom of the rod and started rotating it bacvk and forth while moving the heater controle lever with it. One hand rotating rod stem while moving the lever with the other until it freed up and VIOLA!! It is now unjammed and I have heat. *JOY* If it jams again= It felt pretty wonkey,I will have to just clamp the visegrips on permanently and manually rotate it spring and fall. Better than no heat, I guess, and it cost $0. The only tear down is a clipped on cover (under glove box) and lower+ center duct. I did not even bother rplacing the screw near firewall by gas pedal (you'll see what I mean) and it is fine. Good luck
