Ice Racing.
Ok Now I have posted here before about having a 16 second civic winter car. just for kicks and gigles what would I need to do to set it up for ice and snow racing? That is apart from making it quick - so suspension and wheels and such what would I need to consider?
Sorry I can't drive a slow car nor can I own one that i don't do racing with...

Snowmobile would be the best thing to consider.

Re: Re: Ice Racing.
studded tires, coilover suspension to raise the car. Best suggestion find out what you have in your area, get a rule book, & build the car from that. That goes for all racing. I don't know what your budget & goals are.

Re: Ice Racing.
Actually some regions do no allow studded tires as they can dislodge from the tire and kill someone

Re: Ice Racing.
if you want to go ice racing a civic like ours is probably the worst setup you could possibly come up with besides a torque-miester vw. you would have to have coilovers with possibly the stock springs for additional lift and handling. and have adjustable cambers instead of just heating youre upper control arm up and tappin it with a hammer like me
I third the motion that studded tires on asphault= big no-no, if you wanna keep youre car out of the impound. i have had 5 civics so far this year alone, so please dont ban me for saying this, if you wanna ra lly youre civic you either need to visit youre local mental health hospital, or switch to a wrx or evoVIII setup.

I'd check with your local region too. I know SCCA rulebooks state no tire studs or recapping of tires allowed when competiting.

Ok I'll check that out...Also I asked this other question in a different thread and no one ave me a "clear" answer...yet. So I thought to ask here to seeing that this thread is alive and kicking.
Would a SBC fit in a 92-95 HB? I know it would take alot of mods but just want to know if it has been done or if it will at least in dimension wise. If I were to do it would be carbed so I did not need to worry about most of the wiring work.Would a SBC fit in a 92-95 HB? 4 wheel steering is commonly used in Europe for ice racing. If you really want to race on ice get a motorcycle. Those guys are UNBELEIVEABLE in their ability to control a bike. You would have to do a lot of fab. work for the SBC to fit and then its gonna tear your frame apart. It would be wiser to start with a tube chassis & glass body. That's my opinion. I have seen a 1990 Civic Si (hatch) w/ a 468 Big Block in the rear. How it was done I don't know, I'm sure a lot of redneck engineering. Get a Miata or older RX7 if you want to do the SBC, I've seen that done numerous times. Well it's typically a SBF 5.0L stang motor. |
