crvtec

ok i know this is probably asked every other day, but im gonna ask again. i drive a 97 hx and i want to do the crvtec swap, where is the best place (price wise) to look for parts. manly the block and head, i want to use the civic si head, and then the transmission i want to use the gsr transmission. i dont really car too too much about mileage and what not, except on the trans because im not rebuilding that hopefully. i plan on boring and sleeving the blco and getting the head redon with a angled valve job. so its all gonna be pretty much new after. i just need to know where to look to get hem, ive looked a few places and on ebay. im trying to stay away from ebay if i can because ive already been screwed over on there before fora couple hundred bucks. anyways anyoen who can help ina any way, even if its tips on the swap, please let me know. it would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Re: crvtec

www.hmotorsonline.com call them up and tell them what you need and they will accomodate. They carry a whole lot more than what they have listed on the site.

When looking @ B20 Blocks the 97-98CrV B20B had a lower compression ratio of 8.8:1 The 99-01 CRV B20Z had a compression ratio of 10.2:1. This is due to the fact the B20Z has flatter top pistons compared to the B20B's deeper dish.

If you are planning boost with the CR-Vtec, the lower comp B20B block might be a better choice. If you're going N/A, the high c/r choice is better. You can also get aftermarket pistons to raise/lower the c/r.

Also, with a CR-Vtec motor, check clearences. When a vtec head is installed, there is not a lot of piston to vavle clearence. This is because Vtec heads have larger 33mm intake vavles versus a B20 motors 31mm vavles. You should avoid advancing the intake cam much as contact will occur between the piston and vavles if the cam timing is advanced much more than 4 degrees. Some people feel the clearence is so close that it's advisable to not advanc the intake cam timing at all.

If you run larger lift/duration aftermarket cams on your CR-Vtec, the pistons vavle pockets should be modified and piston to valve clearence should be checked and confirmed with clay before the head is finally assembled to the block. This also goes for if you've modified the head for higher compression by milling.

You can also gain more clearence by carefully girnding the pistons vavle reliefs with a die grinder w/ Carbide burrs and then polishing w/ cartridge rolls.

A minimum clearence of 0.045" for the intake vavles and 0.055" for the exhaust vavles is advisable.

What is your problem man? So I give a lot of info I know from various books I've read. Big deal at least I don't go around giving bad advice like some people. Ask any OG who knows me on this site. It's assholes like you that are the reason I stopped getting motor advice a long time ago and just sat back and watched people believe and take bad advice. Books don't invent the information genius. They are a medium to get it to the people. When it comes to something techincal, there are only so many ways to word it What should I do...say..."well, I learned this from a book, better not give the info out because people might have read that book too!!'

Get a life and stop flaming. If people want advice, I'll give them fricken advice, weather I learned it from abook, mag, or the hard way. I don't give a rats ass where I learned it from. So someone recognized a book I learned something from, big deal. Read through all my posts, you will recognize A LOT of information from MANY OTHER BOOKS AND MAGIZINES.

But oh thats right, if I have read it ANYWHERE before, I better not post the information, I better just pretned like it's not true and let the poor guy learn the hard way.

If I didn that, what kind of member would I be? We're here to help people out and share advice and info, not flame and be assholes.

Watch who you flame. If you go and piss off the vets, you'll find a lot of knowlegdable people will not give you advice when YOU need it.

Don't go and flame people becuase they have read up on info, researched it, and then given out the truthful and correct information they've learned. Flame the people who say the dead wrong information and mislead people. If I am an idiot because I have read many books/magizines and learned the correct info the past 5-6 years, then call me a friggen moron. I'd rather be an "moron" with the correct information that an asshole who repeatedly gives out the wrong advice.

As you know, It didn't come across as that at all. Like has been said, on a computer, things can come out different than in conversations. With something like this, it can very easily be interpreted in a different manner. You need to make sure and be clear when posting, complimentng, etc. Poeple only have words to go on when it cmes to the computer, no body language and no vocal tones. This can make it very easy for things to come across the wrong way.

Thanks for the compliment; it's all good. No need to never help or back someone again. Just remember that when posting on a computer, make sure your point is clear, so people can understand it clearly versus interpreting it in a different light.
