99 taurus air bag light on, horn not working
the air bag light has stayed on now, and the horn will not work via the steering wheel (works with the remote). what has to be replaced? a mounting plate under the steering wheel surface that holds the air bag inside? any insight is appreciated.

Re: 99 taurus air bag light on, horn not working
the clock spring has broken - easy repair - mounts just behind the steering wheel and just plugs in

reply to response taurus clock spring
thanks for the reply and answer. i don't live in the us now, so would like to know the base part number so i can identify this for ordering purposes. i have a shop manual, but cannot readily find a clock spring, perhaps it has a different technical name?
i assume i need to buy a new one to replace, not just a repair. thanks again. |

Re: 99 taurus air bag light on, horn not working
thanks! i also see a horn blow switch in the manual, looks easy to replace, part is 13a875. how do i know it is the clock spring and not the blow switch? have already ordered the clock spring, but just trying to be sure. thanks again.

Re: 99 taurus air bag light on, horn not working
the horn switch wont cause the air bag light - and I replace about 4-5 clock springs a month for the same complaints - you can also check resistance through the clock spring - and open means broken (resistance should be less than 5ohm)
