ok ive done alot of searching on this subject through the forum. the car has a 3.1 in it and it starts every now and then and when it does it will run for a bout 1 minute then just shuts off. i know the fuel pump is working. i took the coil paks and ignition module off and had them tested and there good, so i took or tried to take the crank shaft sensor out and i got the 8mm bolt off of it but cannot seem to get it out of the hole, seems that i can turn it but wont pull out. wondering first of all how the heck to get it out and then if i replace it tomorow and it still doesnt start what would be the next step?

Re: 91 grand prix cranks but no fire
there is a rubber o-ring that seal the crank sensor in the engine. When they get old, the o-ring loses its pliabilty, and makes the sensor stick in the block. Be careful, as the plastic also gets brittle, and too much force can break it off in the block, forcing you to push it into the oil pan. If that happens, you'll have to drop the oil pan to get it out. A gentle rocking motion while pulling straight up usually works, but don't get crazy.

Re: 91 grand prix cranks but no fire
Just went through this very problem. 90 GP 3.1 and I'm sure it had never been replaced. Mine broke off about 1/2 way in. Ended up having to use a Dremel to drill through the thing. There is a hardened steel magnet at the end, and I got all the plastic out but the magnet fell into the pan. Good place for it. Took a lot of time and skinned knuckles to get it out. I ended up pulling the alternator and bracket off to get at it easier. Should have been a 1/2 hour job at most. Car runs much better though.

Re: 91 grand prix cranks but no fire
I had same problem on my 1990 Grand prix. had my Dad helping and he gave it a try and broke it off!! What we did was drilled a hole in front of car in the oil pan, bent a thick enough rod to push the rest of it out where it should go. Then cleaned it out where we drilled the hole, even using magnet etc. then welded hole back up. make sure that hole is offset a little but not a lot and engine might not be in right spot to get at it that you will have to turn engine. Ended up after all that still had problems, ended up I needed a injector. Car runs great Now, at 280,000 Miles!
