What is the smallest measurment of time?

How far can we break down the measurment of time? milliseconds? farther? We have broken down mass into atoms and further into protons and electrons but those can be broken down even further. into what is inside protons, eclectrons. what is the smallest measurment of time that we have come up with so far?

There is no analogy btween breaking down matter into physical components and the arbitrary method of measuring time.

Therfore there is no limit in how small the time increments can be. You can specify a 0.0000000000000..........00001 sec for example.

The only practical limit is set by how accurate our clock technology is.

The smallest measurement of time is the amount of time that passes between two events that the human brain can understand. If it is any faster, we can't tell.

The smallest measured time (not the possible smallest, but what has actually been measured) is also known as Plancks Time. The Planck Time is the time it would take a photon travelling at the speed of light to cross a distance equal to the Planck length 1.6 x 10 (to the -35th power) meter.

So the smallest time measurement is 10(to the -43rd) seconds. One small ass amount of time.

This has been my geeky moment for the day

Wow and damn Yogs, what field are you in anyway? I see to remember something from chemistry about Planck... yep, I remember his last name but that's about it.

I think for all day-to-day practical purposes, Oz has it right - it's what we can notice.
