I think they were pushing it. They likely knew what the law was about public nudity/sex (dang, a hole in my cultural knowledge). If they broke it, they broke it.
Their atty saying they were engaging in free expression is juuuuuust a little bit of a stretch.

HA! Yeah what does doing it in public have to do with saving the rain forest? I don't think there's that much bush in the rain forest.
